How it works
How the conversation gets made.
There is no algorithm. No dashboard. No queue. A person reads, thinks, and picks a specific person for a specific conversation.
What this movement is not
Before we describe what Prime Citizens is, it is worth being clear about what it is not.
- It is not therapy. We are not clinicians. We do not diagnose, treat, or replace mental health care.
- It is not coaching. No one is here to set your goals or hold you accountable.
- It is not consulting. No fees for advice, no billable hours, no deliverables.
- It is not a support group. You do not join anything. You do not sit in a circle with strangers.
- It is not a helpline. This is not for a crisis. If you are in one, please reach out to a professional first.
- It is not a dating service, and it is not friendship-matching. The purpose is one honest conversation on something specific, not the beginning of an ongoing relationship — though if one grows out of it, that is between the two of you.
- It is not a senior services product. Prime Citizens exists to serve everyone. The 65-to-80 cohort is where the lived experience comes from, not who the movement is for.
- It is not an app. There is no feed, no algorithm, no swipe. The matching is done by a person.
- Participation is free during the pilot. We will say more about future pricing as we grow.
What it is: two people, sitting down together in person, to have one real conversation about something one of them has lived and the other is living now.
How we onboard
Prime Citizens is small right now. The founding team is a handful of people. The person who reaches out to you will be one of us, personally — not a form, not a chatbot, not a scheduling link that opens on a coordinator you never meet.
That is deliberate. This movement is about real people in real conversation, and the way we onboard has to match the thing itself. If we started people's experience of Prime Citizens with an automated funnel, we would be teaching them the wrong lesson about who we are before they ever met anyone.
So the onboarding is human. It is slower than a form. It is worth it. It happens in five stages, in the order below.
01Getting to know you
Getting to know you
Every applicant, whether you have raised your hand as a Prime Citizen or as a Knowledge Seeker, has a conversation with someone from our founding team before you are matched with anyone.
For a Prime Citizen, this is a longer conversation. We want to understand who you are, what you have lived, and what you are open to sitting down to talk about with someone. It is not a script and it is not a test. It is closer to a good first meeting than to a job interview — though there is a small part of it that is a job interview, honestly, because sitting down with someone who has come to you for real help is a role that deserves to be taken seriously.
For a Knowledge Seeker, it is a shorter conversation. We want to understand what you are facing, why you are reaching out now, and what kind of person you are hoping to sit with. We want to know you well enough to match you carefully.
Depending on the circumstances, we may also ask for references or run a background check. This is for the protection of all participants. We are asking one person to trust another in a real, in-person setting, and it is our job to do the work behind the scenes that makes that trust reasonable. If you have been introduced to us by someone we already know, that changes the picture; we lean on the referral. If you have come to us cold, we take a little longer.
We do sometimes say no. Not often — but when we do, we do it kindly, and we do it because we can already see that a match would not be right.
02Matching
The match
The matching is done by a person.
There is no algorithm. No dashboard. No queue. Someone from our founding team reads what we have learned about you, thinks carefully, and picks a specific person for a specific conversation. Not the closest match by keyword. The right match by judgment.
That means it takes time. It also means the match, when it happens, is deliberate — and both sides know that.
We only make one match at a time. One Prime Citizen. One Knowledge Seeker. One conversation. If it goes well and there is reason for a second, that is a separate decision made afterward.
03Privacy
What you share, and with whom
Prime Citizens is private by design.
Before a match is made, nobody sees anyone else on the platform. There is no directory. No search. No browsing. No feed of Prime Citizens to scroll through. The people who have raised their hand are known to us and to no one else.
Once a match is made, the two of you see a profile of each other, prepared with care. Not a facts sheet. A description. Enough for each of you to understand who the other person is and why we thought this pairing might work — but with first names only, and no contact details yet.
The introduction call happens the same way — first names, faces, the conversation itself. Meeting logistics are handled through us until the call is done.
After the introduction call, if both of you feel this is right, we facilitate the exchange of the details you need to actually meet — full name, address, phone. From that point forward, the meeting is between the two of you.
Behind all of that: your information is held by us and used for the matching. It is not sold. It is not shared with third parties. A full privacy policy will be published as we grow, prepared with the involvement of a privacy lawyer.
04Introduction call
The introduction call
Before the in-person conversation, we set up a short call between the two of you online — usually thirty to sixty minutes, at a time that works for both.
The reason is simple. We do not want either of you walking into a first meeting cold. The introduction call is where you hear each other's voice, see each other's face, and get a feel for the person before you spend an afternoon together. By the time you sit down in person, you are not strangers.
It also gives both of you the chance to agree on the practicalities — where to meet, when, and anything either of you needs to make the day comfortable.
There is one more thing the call does, quietly. If either of you finishes it and feels that the match is not quite right, you tell us. No explanation is required. We rethink. It is very rare — because by the time we make a match, we have spent real thought on it — but the option is always there.
05The conversation
The conversation itself
The conversation happens in person. At a place of your choosing — a living room, a kitchen table, a park bench, a favorite coffee place. Wherever the conversation would want to happen.
We do not book venues. We do not send you to a studio. The whole point is that the meeting takes place in a natural setting, on your terms.
The conversation itself is unhurried. Usually two to four hours, sometimes longer if you both want to continue the conversation. You talk about the thing. You talk about the things next to the thing. You listen. You share what you have. You leave when you both feel done.
There is no camera. There is no note-taker. There is no third party in the room. Just two people, in conversation, the way conversations used to happen.
What comes next — if anything comes next —
is between the two of you.
Ready when you are
Real people. Real experience. In conversation.
